Lisa Wade is a single mom of two biracial kids, who is forced to take a job as a nanny for an 8-year old girl with Spina Bifida (Justine) and move in with her husband's father, Don, after her husband was recently killed while on deployment in the Marines. While his death is being investigated, Lisa is caught in the government red-tape and unable to receive the benefits promised to her.
